Where the Cafe Rio Story Began
It started with a single kitchen, a handwritten menu, and an unwavering commitment to quality. In 2008, founder Maria Santos opened the first Cafe Rio location in Salt Lake City, Utah with one simple goal: to serve food that tasted like it was made with love, because it was.

Maria Santos opens the original Cafe Rio location at 532 E 400 S, Salt Lake City, Utah. The debut menu features 12 handcrafted dishes, all sourced from local farms. The lunch rush sells out on day one.
Catering Takes Off
Overwhelming demand for private events leads to the launch of Cafe Rio Catering. Within six months, the catering division is servicing over 30 corporate and private events per month across Salt Lake City.
Best New Restaurant Award
Cafe Rio is named "Best New Restaurant" by Utah Food & Dining Magazine. The accolade attracts national media coverage, bringing our caferio story to food lovers across the United States.
Online Ordering Launch
